EMVIN CREMONA RETROSPECTIVE
Upstairs in our audio visual room is an exhibition of original artworks by Emvin Cremona. Widely acknowledged as one of Malta's finest artists, Cremona supplied over 170 designs for 62 sets of stamps. His artworks define and establish an imagery of innovation, often challenging the basic format of stamp design. Inspired by everyday life, Cremona's designs cover a wide range of subjects including historical events and personalities. They explore the introduction of abstraction in postage stamp artwork and illustrate his interpretation of the human figure and our rich, cultural landscape. These artworks are an absolute treasure.
PIONEERING EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY: Postal photographs by Richard Ellis c. 1920
Our First Floor Gallery is showing a photographic exhibition of a number of rare black and white photos taken in the early 1920's by English photographer Richard Ellis. The prints focus exclusively on the General Post Office in Merchant's Street and also take us behind the scenes to the sorting rooms where Malta's mail was readied for dispatching.
